The Challenge: Perform an assessment of business processes, investigate and resolve Information Assurance Vulnerability Assessments (IAVA) Protect over 5000 workstation and 300 servers while maintaining the effectiveness of the mission.
The Solution: Performs in the Cyber Security environment with a Security Level of Top Secret. Identifies security vulnerabilities on various computing resources (software and equipment) throughout the network. Evaluates problems and provides solutions for corrective action. performs the appropriate diagnostics to ensure vulnerabilities have been eradicated.
Performs intrusion detection activities to protect the network from malicious and unintentional attacks from external and internal sources. As needed, develops automated processes to further enhance the governments IA and security objectives.
Specific processes include Developed processes to enable Common Access Card (CAC) authentication using VPN tunnels; Implemented Data at rest encryption (Microsoft) on workstations to ensure that all data residing on workstations is encrypted and protected against inadvertent and/or unauthorized access.

Database Solutions Architect
1. Design, implement, administer, and maintain databases in integrated, virtual, grid architecture. Specific tasks include the following.
2. Install, configure, and test new versions of the DBMS and Application Server (AS) software.
3. Upgrade, maintain and apply vendor and security patches. Ensure compliance with IAVAS and STIGS. Review configuration of hardware and software with the system administrator.
4. Maintain systems integrity, including virus checking. Ensure maximum availability and performance given resources.
5. Optimize system layout and monitor capacity restraints. Monitor and administer database security, create and administer user accounts. Monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain the database.
6. Backup and recover the database.
7. Configure database network services.
8. Interpret and write complex SQL queries, coach developers in SQL scripting. Develop and execute queries for ad-hoc retrievals and data mining.
9. Support application development and testing: review application data models and database designs (logical & physical) with developers suggesting efficiencies where appropriate, verify data integrity.

Manager of the United States Army Research Development & Engineering Command (RDECOM), Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD. ICS (Performed by STSC) is the Site Manager for the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) Directorate of Information Management-South (DOIM(S)). This includes all Desktop Support Services, Systems Administration and Network Support for a 2,500-employee enterprise. ICS is responsible for the transition from a client-based support organization to a Single DOIM organization with 35 employees operating under the Technical Control (TECHCON) to another organization, the APG DOIM.

ICS provided operational support including day-to-day oversight and strategic planning in the following areas: Network Remediation, Project Management for the Fiscal Management Systems and the Student Information System, Day-to-day IT Operations Management, Development of a Five Year Information Technology/System Master Plan and Recruitment of Key Personnel.
ICS developed a master plan to implement three major application programs and to move BCPSS from a legacy system with limited client/server capabilities to a client/server environment with
Windows COTS packages run in client and distributed service modes. Contingency plans were incorporated into the recommendations.
ICS provided software support including the development of custom programs to replace applications written in COBOL and CICS. ICS has customized Oracle Financials, Oracle Human Resources, and Oracle Payroll to fit BCPSS requirements. In addition, ICS has developed Oracle applications including records management, workforce management, performance measurement, training, technical inventory control, requirements tracking, time and attendance, facilities management, budget planning and forecasting. ICS developed and maintains the BCPSS data warehouse which consists of 227 Oracle databases.
Dr. Nancy Grasmick, State Superintendent of Schools, reported that “for the first time in fifteen years, the Baltimore City Public School System has a sound management information system that works.”

The Total Information Processing Support Services-3 (TIPSS3) project provided information processing support services for the Department of the Treasury (DOT), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Treasury Bureau, and other federal agencies. It supported IRS tax systems. It provided technical support and a full range of information processing support services. ICS provided information system services including development, training and quality assurance. We furnished strategic business services including modernization of legacy paper based systems. We implemented special computer and human interfaces to provide equal access to persons with disabilities.
ICS implemented system security services enhancing the security of data in databases and in transmission. We developed contingency plans for system failures and recovery procedures. We conducted risk analysis and recommended and implemented corrective actions.
